Student Democracy Program

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division's Student Democracy Program is aimed at giving high school students an inside look at American democracy in action. Student Democracy Ambassadors are essential members of the Election Day team, assisting voters and participating in Vote Center operations. You will be paid for your day of service and for attending training on the elections process. See flyer for more information.

Employment Opportunities

You can do more than vote! Volunteer with your local County Elections Office. You'll even get paid! The County is recruiting couriers, voter center volunteers, and Student Vote Center Ambassadors.

Requirements

To serve as a high school poll worker, a student must:

• A United States citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be at least 16 years old on Election Day
• Attend a public or private high school
• Have at least a 2.5 grade point average
• Get permission from your parents and school
• Attend a training session

What does an elections worker do?

• Sets up and closes a polling place
• Helps voters understand their rights
• Protects ballots and voting equipment
