Climate Adaptation Plan for Sea Level Rise (Subregional Shoreline Adaptation Plan)

In 2024, the City of San Mateo obtained a Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant to create a Climate Adaptation Plan for Sea Level Rise (Project/Plan), which will fulfill the new requirements of Senate Bill 272 and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission’s (BCDC) Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP) to prepare a Subregional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (Subregional Plan) for the City. The initiative is supported by funding from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Sustainable Planning Grant Program and will meet new regional requirements for shoreline resilience planning. San Mateo is among the first agencies in the region to formally initiate a plan aligned with RSAP requirements. BCDC has issued an Initiation Notice recognizing the City’s effort.
