Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

  • You need a valid San Mateo Public Library card to make a reservation. San Mateo Public Library card numbers begin with '29047.'
  • You can have up to 2 reservations at a time.
  • You can cancel a reservation only if you have not already printed the admission pass.
  • The pass is valid for the person named on the date specified. No photocopies are allowed. ID is required.

What if my card is from a different library in the Peninsula Library System?

Below is a list of other libraries in the Peninsula Library System that also participate in the Discover & Go program. If you have a card through one of these libraries, follow the link to log in and print out your passes.

Are you limited to a certain number of museum pass reservations for the year?

Most venues do not have an annual limit per library card number. There are some venues that have placed a restriction on the number of times you can use a pass.  With these venues, if you reserve a pass and do not use it or cancel the reservation, the unused pass will count towards your limit with the venue. You will find details about each pass within the venue information at Discover & Go.

How many Discover & Go passes can I reserve?

You can have 2 active reservations at a time.

What museums are available for reservations through Discover & Go?

You can see which museums and cultural destinations are available by clicking on "Venues" at Discover & Go.

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age to reserve a pass is 14 years old. For some attractions, the minimum age will be 16 or 18.  Attractions available for older age groups will not display when someone younger logs in. For example: the de Young Museum has an age limit of 18 and up. If a 14 year old logs into Discover & Go, the de Young Museum passes will not display.

Do I have to be a San Mateo Public Library cardholder?
You must live within the library’s service area in order to log in and reserve passes.  Discover & Go is set up to track your zip code. If you do not qualify to reserve a pass because your zip code is not in the library’s jurisdiction, we recommend that you try your home library (within your own zip code) since many local library systems offer Discover & Go.

Can I use a mobile pass?

If an attraction requires a printed pass, mobile passes will not be accepted.  This information will be provided on the attraction’s page.

I want to cancel my pass. What do I do?

You can cancel a pass that has not been printed by logging into Discover & Go and clicking on "Cancel Pass."  However once the pass has been printed your reservation cannot be cancelled. If you cancel a pass, the unused pass will count towards your limit with the venue.
