Background & Helpful Links
The City is transitioning to district elections for future City Council members. Why does this matter? The City Council sets policies and allocates funding that impact a variety of issues important to the San Mateo community. This includes everything from housing and childcare programs, to parks and transportation improvements. District elections will directly impact how you elect future City Council members to make these decisions for your community!
Get Involved & Participate
Communities of Interest - Tell us About Your Neighborhood
The first phase of public engagement will be to collect input to help define local “Communities of Interest.”
Use our new online Communities of Interest form or find a fillable PDF version (English, Spanish, Chinese) to share your feedback!
Next Steps
During the second phase of engagement, residents can draw maps for how they think districts should be divided in San Mateo, before the Council considers approval of a final map. The City has hired professional demographer Redistricting Partners to assist in the process, which is expected to be completed on Nov. 15, 2021.
