Team Up to Clean Up:
Interested in connecting with others while keeping your neighborhood litter-free? The Team Up to Clean Up program is meant to bring San Mateo residents and neighborhoods together in a joint effort to eliminate litter in our streets, storm drains, parks and waterways. The City will provide you with all necessary equipment including gloves, buckets, and trash pickers. Interested but don’t know where to start? Contact volunteersource@cityofsanmateo.org or call (650) 522-7277 and we can help you get started!
Do-It-Yourself Volunteering:
Giving back in your own neighborhood is a great way to make a difference in your community. When it is difficult to find the right volunteer opportunity for only 1 – 3 hours of service, think DO IT YOURSELF. The City of San Mateo offers a Do-It-Yourself Volunteering opportunity. The criteria is very easy. We ask you think of a service idea, get your idea approved by the city, take a picture of the work you did along with the hours, and we send back a confirmation of the hours completed!
Some service ideas include:
- Write a letter to a politician (City Council Member, CA State Senator, CA Governor, etc.) about an issue that is important to you.
- Donate clothes to a local shelter or charity.
- Donate non-perishable food items to a local shelter, charity, or food bank.
