Encroachment Permits - Online Applications

The City of San Mateo allows you to check the status of Encroachment Permits online from anywhere, any time, using any online-connected device.

At the The Citizen Self-Service (CSS) Portal you can look up business tax records, track permits, planning applications, code enforcement cases, and request inspections for current permits. You no longer need to call or come into City Hall during business hours to request inspections or look up current and past records. The CSS is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

Scheduled Maintenance Planned for Online Permit Center (CSS)

Our Online Permit Center will be unavailable from Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 4 a.m. PST to Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, 8 a.m. PST for scheduled maintenance. Public Works permitting operations, such as inspections, will continue; however, we will not be able to look-up, process, review or update records, process payments, or finalize inspections during the maintenance window.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For questions regarding Public Works’ permits, please contact pwencroachment@cityofsanmateo.org. For questions regarding Building Permits or downtime, please contact building.info@cityofsanmateo.org.

The new CSS is not for utility company permits. Click Instructions & Applications Form for all Encroachment Permits.
