The Jane Austen Society of North America is dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of Jane Austen and her writing. The Northern California chapter presents a display titled, “The mode in hats and headdresses during the lifetime of Jane Austen + 16 years. 1775-1833.” The display features caps, turbans and hats on heads with period appropriate paper hairdos. Each hat is presented and described along with its inspiration, which may include a period fashion plate, portrait or extant hat.

City Arts of San Mateo presents an exhibition of their High School Art Recognition Program featuring artwork from Aragon, Hillsdale, and San Mateo High Schools. Their mission is to inspire, encourage, and acknowledge the creativity and talent of local high school students. The theme for this year’s exhibit is “Illusion/Reality.” Visual artwork will be on display at the library in the 1st floor hallway near the Oak Room and on the 3rd floor in the Teen Lounge. A binder containing literary submissions is located near the Oak Room. An awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 19, at 6:30 pm in the Oak Room.

The Library will host a Family Concert featuring the Huckleberry Quartet that will take young audiences on a whirlwind tour of musical styles and cultural traditions that includes classical, jazz, blues, and world music from many countries across the centuries. These four virtuosic string players entertain and engage audiences of all ages. This program is a collaboration with Music at Kohl Mansion.
